3003 Aluminum Disc For Traffic Sign

2026-04-10 11:45:29

As the production technology manager at Haomei Aluminum, I have been responsible for process optimization and quality control of 3003 aluminum discs for traffic signs for 12 years. Our products have been exported to 35 countries worldwide, from the frigid regions of Northern Europe to the deserts of the Middle East, from North American highways to Southeast Asian coastal roads, with a cumulative delivery of over 120,000 tons of qualified products.

3003 aluminum disc for traffic sign

Precisely adapted to global traffic sign needs, our aluminum discs specifications strictly adhere to international standards and are subject to stringent control.

Our 3003 aluminum discs are manufactured in strict accordance with three major international standards: ASTM-B209, GB/T 3190-2008, and EN-AW 3003.

Diameters range from 300mm to 1600mm, with tolerances controlled within ±0.5mm, meeting the needs of all scenarios from warning signs to prohibitory signs.

Common thicknesses are 1.0mm, 1.2mm, 1.5mm, and 2.0mm, with tolerances accurate to ±0.05mm. 1.5mm is the most commonly used thickness for traffic signs globally.

The alloy is available in H14 and H18 tempers. H14 balances strength and formability, suitable for conventional road conditions, while H18 offers higher strength and is suitable for areas with strong winds.

Surface treatment employs chemical cleaning, chromating, or chromium-free passivation processes, achieving a surface roughness Ra≤0.8μm. This ensures reflective film adhesion ≥0.6MPa and roundness accuracy ≤0.3mm, with full-circumference inspection to prevent eccentricity and wobbling after installation.

During production, we utilize a four-roll precision rolling process, improving sheet thickness uniformity by 20% and eliminating burrs and flash at the edges, providing a perfect substrate for subsequent film application and installation.

The scientifically formulated 3003 alloy gives the product three core characteristics suitable for traffic signs. As an Al-Mn series rust-resistant aluminum alloy, 3003 aluminum achieves a triple breakthrough in mechanical properties, corrosion resistance, and processing performance through the precise addition of 1.0%-1.5% manganese.

In terms of mechanical properties, its tensile strength reaches 142-178 MPa, and its yield strength is ≥115 MPa, approximately 40% higher than that of pure aluminum series (1050/1060), while maintaining an elongation of 12%-16%. This ensures that the markings do not deform under strong wind loads and meets the cold bending requirements during installation.

Regarding corrosion resistance, manganese forms a dense oxide film, showing no white rust after 1000 hours of neutral salt spray testing. In harsh environments such as high-salt coastal areas and industrial pollution, its service life can reach 15-20 years, far exceeding the 8-10 year standard for pure aluminum markings.

In terms of processing adaptability, the product has a thermal conductivity of 190 W/(m·K) and a wide forming temperature range (150-300℃), making it suitable for high-speed stamping, shearing, and lamination processes. Our tests show that 1.5mm thick H14 condition products can be stamped at a rate of 120 pieces per minute without cracks or springback, significantly improving downstream processing efficiency.

Leveraging Haomei's mature production processes and global export experience, our products possess four unique and practical advantages. Combining years of production control and export experience, our aluminum disc for traffic signs offer differentiated advantages in adaptability, cost, quality, and delivery.

First, they boast strong global environmental adaptability. Production solutions are customized for different regional climates. Products for the Middle East have a 20% thicker chromate coating (reaching 0.8μm) to withstand high temperatures and direct sunlight; products for Northern Europe utilize the H18 temper to enhance snow load resistance; and products for Southeast Asia feature a mildew-resistant coating to cope with humid environments, ensuring stable operation under various extreme climates.

Second, they offer a cost-effective balance. With a density of only 2730kg/m³, 3003 aluminum discs are 65% lighter than steel plates of the same size, reducing transportation costs by 40%. Installation requires no heavy equipment; a single column can provide support, and long-term maintenance costs are virtually zero.

Third, the reflective film adhesion is guaranteed. Our chromium-free passivation process achieves a surface energy of over 38 mN/m, increasing adhesion strength with mainstream reflective films such as 3M and Avery by 30%.

Fourth, export is convenient and quality is traceable. Each batch of products comes with a Certificate of Conformity (COC), mechanical performance report, and salt spray test data, meeting the requirements of EU REACH, North American ASTM, and Middle Eastern SASO certifications. Waterproof and moisture-proof packaging is used, and products are shipped by container to major ports worldwide, with a stable delivery cycle of 25-30 days.

Full-process quality control and long-term quality commitment build a solid technological barrier for our products. As a leading global manufacturer of aluminum discs, we have established a triple quality control system to ensure product quality from the source: 100% of raw materials undergo spectral analysis to ensure manganese content is precisely controlled within the range of 1.2% ± 0.1%; finished products undergo full-size inspection using imported German laser thickness gauges and roundness testers to prevent unqualified products from leaving the factory; and one disc out of every 2000 discs undergoes reflective film adhesion testing to ensure compliance with international standards.

3003 aluminum discs, with their superior overall performance, have become the preferred substrate in the global traffic sign industry. We continuously optimize our production processes and have developed third-generation nano-ceramic coating technology, further improving product weather resistance by 50%.
